URBANPAINTING XMAS SHOW nuova apertura dal 2 all'11 gennaio 2010. Spazio Concept - Via. V. Forcella, 7 - Milano Info: www.urbanpainting.org email: urbanpainting@ymail.com
Creating a new work for the Urban X mas show in Milano I attempted as we all do as best we can to explain the dynamic of painting spontaneously in groups or on our own in the streets by leaving a canvas on the ground for children to paint in Naples Italy and then completing it with paste ups and additional refinement while sketching in the street. This was an experiment that hopes to explain or get closer to my opinion and enthusiasm of line while working symultaneously in the streets and on canvas. The animation seemed a good meaning to express the process of painting and the particulare energy and line in Street interventions. This experience lead me to reflect on the intent, energy and signifigance of Street Art, at least in my personal research and awareness of the amazing international phenomenon. I think the highly developed graphics and perfect detailed stencils are astounding but believe the most fascinating thing about graffiti/Street Art or drawing on stuff in general to be the political gesture. I say political not in the contemporary money sense, but in the Polis sense. We tend to exist under fixed themes that never alow us to say a word. We tend to give amazing amounts of energy and credit to total bullshit. Our fascination with death and violence, for one, is a proxy used to hold everyone to their seats and sets until they win the lotto or cash that retirement. I think the self centered dogmas used in many forms of communication are tied to the structure of the word and not the world. Sometimes seeing your space invaded by Changes; tags, mosquitoes or global warming, can get you off the word. Get you off the syntax and all its rhetorical complaining, get you into action. I am not refering to the cash and carry or the big punches. Beauty has never been an explosion or a contract so we the earning principles are worth more than financial speculation. This is why I like Street Art/ Graffiti, or general drawing on stuff. I like it because it often works for itself without violence like a strong individual, not like an ashamed poet or the wrash decisions of industry. I think that Street Art exists because of the strong Women and Men that were asking a lot of questions in the demonstrations I witnessed as a child. I think that any youth culture exists because we want to fly around and boogie down, not win the contest or the war. I think people are fond of each others thoughts and talents in a unique way that can be better explained and balanced spontaneously. I think it's a lot of fun to do things because you love them and this should never lead to shame, worry, or criminality. If such a movement means painting, sharing and being so alive it takes up the streets, why not bless it. If it only means the world to you and not the words or numbers to obey it sounds like a good thing to stand behind. The world to shop or consume things that are common and not candid is more and more transparent and this could lead to refinement. I think the Mayor of chill town wants us to "be cool" this Christmas and stop getting so down on every wall or way to sell ourselves presents better had in presence. A presence better lived in streets decorated all year long. So Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night, good painting and good living something unique and real for every little voice inside and outside, every paste up, animation or stencil that we share, not in the common good associated with fame or glory, but in the Polis as it should be, in the streets and in the thoughts of freedom we all desire and share. Ho Ho HO!
