MAC & RETNA - "Memento Mori"
THE MAC AND RETNA
artist: THE MAC AND RETNA
website: http://mac-arte.blogspot.com/
FROM ELMAC FLICKR ACCOUNT:
"This is a mural Retna & I just painted in Los Angeles called "Memento Mori". This is a Latin phrase meaning "be mindful of death" and can be translated as "remember that you are mortal" or "remember that you must die". That could seem a little grim, but the point is really to encourage us to properly value and make the most of our time here.
I painted the figure & Retna did all the rest.
Retna's lettering in the background is from a pre-hispanic Nahuatl/Azteca poem:
"Must I go like the flowers that perish?
Will nothing remain of my name?
Nothing of my fame here on earth?
At least my flowers, at least my songs.
Earth is the region of the fleeting moment."

LIVING DECAY - A PORTRAIT OF A CHANGING LANDSCAPE
Living Decay (a portrait of a changing landscape) - Teaser trailer from nulli versi on Vimeo.
Living Decay – a portrait of a changing landscape
The documentary “Living Decay” by Davide Fasolo was completed and is about the works of Dolk and Pøbel. In the summer of 2008 the two talented Norwegian street artists took on the challenge of Lofoten Islands countryside in Norway to create large-scale murales on the faces of abandoned houses which are about to be demolished.
“Living Decay” is suggestive daily log that narrates through seven chapters, the making of these huge paintings inside the unique northern landscape.
The documentary opens and closes with the narration by the American artist John Fekner, pioneer of 70’ street art.
The soundtrack alternates between original tracks from “Starving pets” and tracks of “Perturbazione”, “Armstrong?” e “Farmer Sea”.

INTERVIEW GIVEN TO "STREET ART STOCKHOLM"
http://www.streetartstockholm.se/
"I´m just a stencil artist and this makes me really happy "
January 16th, 2009 under Intervjuer
S.A.S. : Why do you paint in the streets? And why stencils?
C215 : "The streets are just my favourite gallery, I been in love with graffiti since i was a child. Sure I did draw, paint free hand, with brushes, with cans, but stencils are the best way to quick place something beautiful anywhere in the streets, without any fucking authorisation."
"Just a cat piece I did on a door in the Casablanca medina in April 2009. Painting free and quite in the streets, sharing good moments with passing by people. A beggar lady, a little kid and his father selling food next to my piece... Exactly what i like, exactly why I am doing street stencils"... c215
